8 Day Rwenzori Margherita Peak Climbing

Safari Highlights: Margherita Peak

Our 8 day safari takes you trekking the Rwenzori Mountains which involves hiking to the highest peak- Margherita which is at an altitude of 5109m.

Day 1 Arrive Entebbe

On Arrival we meet and greet and provide a private transfer to the hotel for overnight stay at the Malakai Eco Lodge on Bed and breakfast basis

 Day 2 : Kasese

Depart for Kasese, having lunch in Fort portal before heading for Kasese. Final purchases of the fresh fruits and vegetables before, Overnight

Margherita Hotel [L, D]

 Day 3 Nyabitaba

Morning, transfer to Nyakalengija for weighing and porter allocation  before starting the climb of about 5 hours to the first hut. Picnic  lunches will be served this day before climbing through the moss to  the Nyabitaba Hut [2650 m] Overnight Nyabitaba Hut [B, L, D]

 Day 4 John Matte

Start early after breakfast and climb through the Kurt Shafer Bridge  that crosses the Mobuku River Confluence. This 5 hour hike takes you through the bamboo, Lobelia and heath finally ending at John Matte Hut [3350 m] Overnight John Matte Hut [B, L, D]

 Day 5 Bujuku

The climb this day gets boggy as you hike through Giant heather,  Lobelias and groundsel through the Cooking Pot to the overnight hut at  Bujuku [3977 m]. The average hiking time for this section is 4.5 –  5hours. Overnight at Bujuku Hut [B, L, D]

Day 6 Elena

 

Breakfast at leisure and proceed on a muddy hike through steep cliffs. This is a section of Giant Groundsels and Lobelias that characterized the higher section of the Mountain. Ascend further to Elena Hut which acts as a base for the final assent of the highest peak of the  Rwenzori Mountains “The Margherita”. Meals and overnight at Elena Hut  [4541 m] Overnight Elena Hut [B, L, D]

Day 7: Kitandara

Rise up very early before sunrise and walk through the snow to Margherita peak (5109m). If weather conditions are favorable, sunset would find you at the peak where you would take pictures. From here, descend to the Kitandara Lakes [4023 m] Overnight Kitandara Hut [B, L,  D]

 Day 8 Guy Yeoman

The descent gets you through beautiful views of the Congo and the  alpine moss. The trail then leads through the Bujongolo and Kabamba rock shelters. This trip takes an average of 6 hours to Guy Yeoman Hut is [3260 m]

Overnight at Guy Yeoman Hut [B, L, D]

 Day 9 Nyabitaba

The descent of about 6 hours starts to Nyabitaba through the heather  zone, Mobuku River and the Bamboo forest before heading to your final hut in the Mountains [2650 m] Overnight at Nyabitaba hut [B, L, D]

Day 10: Kasese – Fort Portal

Transfer from Kasese to Forportal where you can choose to relax or have an optional city tour. Overnight at Mountains of Moon hotel

Day 11: Fort Portal – Entebbe

In the morning you will drive from Fortportal to Entebbe to catch your flight back home
